Born and raised in the Bay Area (much like Olympic gold medalist Alysa Liu), Melissa Peng is the daughter of two laser scientists who got divorced later.

She writes heartfelt, funny stories as well as storyless vehicles for jokes (whatever’s easier, she’s flexible, please don’t get divorced).

She’s written sketch comedy for Maude Night at The Upright Citizens Brigade as well as shows at the Elysian Theater and SF Sketchfest. Her short film BABY GAY screened at Academy Award-qualifying festivals and won a couple awards. Melissa is also currently a fellow in the Women In Film 2025-26 fellowship program.
